In April 2019, Ryk brought together 12 talented actors for a table reading of Garreville.  This consisted of one Saturday of the cast reading through the script, and the next Saturday of them performing around a table.  This time and experience was used to tighten up the script, get an idea of what songs will sound like with a cast, and to start to drum up excitement for the show.

Our current plans are to set up rehearsals for a stage reading of Garreville in July.

While this will not be a full theater production in the sense of full costume, orchestra, sets, etc, it will help generate more interest and support for putting the full show on.

We are hoping to be able to produce the full stage production of Garreville in February 2020 - as a part of Black History Month celebrations.

The estimated cost of performing the entire show is $250,000. Initially we are seeking $15,000 for workshopping that ends with a stage reading.  Here’s the breakdown:

Production Space-We need to venue for a full scale performance of Garreville. Either in Philly or South Jersey.

Rehearsal Space – we would expect this to be a month of rehearsals three times a week, ending with a weekend of cast table readings for an audience

Music Director – the music is written, the songs are ready to be sung, the music director will help our actors work toward their full musical potential.

Choreographer – Traditionally africans performed dances to celebrate a birth, harvest or death – these traditions of dance were brought to the Americas and continued to evolve over time, through tap, ballet and modern dance as some examples.  Dance continues to be as importance as music in the self-expression of black culture and the music in this show.
