A note from the Author

I have a story to tell.

I believe it’s a very important story that needs to be told and it needs to be heard.

When I began crafting this story, I didn’t understand all that I would uncover, nor the aspects of our collective history that would surface as a result of the process.

And now that I’ve finished writing Garreville, it’s somehow become clear that one of the keys to bringing about the kind of world that we want and need to have, is to help people to understand how things have come to be the way that they are. Honesty, bravery, passion and compassion...I tried to bring all of these elements to the telling of this story.

This show is my attempt at telling part of the story of the African American community in the rural south during the early 1900’s. Family, tradition, oppression, perseverance, faith…all are presented in hopes of bringing some honest understanding to all who experience Garreville.

I hope to entertain, enlighten, provoke and inspire. I believe that Garreville can do all of those.
